The list of bands in which Josh Homme has been active in over the years is practically endless: When he was 14, Homme started the heavy metal band Kyuss, then he became a touring guitarist for Screaming Trees, founded Gamma Ray, formed "The Desert Sessions" in 1997, Eagles Of Death Metal in 1998 and Them Crooked Vultures in 2009 together with Foo Fighters lead singer Dave Grohl. However, he is still best known as being part of the rock band Queens Of The Stone Age.

Band history: Queens Of The Stone Age

From 1996 to '97 "QOTSA" was known as Gamma Ray and released an EP under that name - The name however had to change when a German power metal band of the same name threatened with a lawsuit. So the first (self titled) studio album followed under their now better known name "QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE". However it wasn't before RATED R (2000) that the band experienced success as well as gaining opening slots for bands such as The Smashing Pumpkins. In 2001 they even performed in front of 40.000 people at the German Rock Am Ring festival - A show that apparently was a big flop. Josh Homme having said it was "the worst show we've ever played and it was in front of 40,000 people." The band decided to capture this bad experience forever as they all had the starting time of the gig ("Freitag 4:15") tattooed on themselves!
Despite the festival flop, for Queens Of The Stage there was only one direction to go from there: Steeply upwards. Their third album SONGS FOR THE DEAF (2002) was certified gold, thanks in part to hits like 'No One Knows' and 'Go With the Flow'.

After ERA VULGARIS (2007) they band took a long break: With their follow up record ...LIKE CLOCKWORK having not been released until 2013. One reason for this was (besides the several side projects from all band members) a longer hospital stay from Josh Homme: His heart stopped beating during a knee surgery and he could only be revived with a defibrillator. Long months of rehabilitation and depression followed, the lead singer even wanted to give up his music career. But in the end, these experiences only led to inspiration for the ...LIKE CLOCKWORK album, which became the first record of the band to hit #1 in the US charts.

The seventh and latest Queens Of The Stone Age album, VILLAINS, was released in 2017.
