Today, alternative rock is considered a central entry point for rock and metal newcomers. Perhaps it is this diversity that defines the charm of alternative rock. If you're musically open from R.E.M. to Jane’s Addiction and have a heart for earthy, modern, and interesting rock music, then alternative rock is the right place for you. Do you love partying at concerts and are looking for the right alternative rock merch from your favorite bands? Then check out our wide selection of bands. In the following text, you'll find some points of interest that you should definitely check out.

    Alternative Rock History

The term alternative rock hasn't been popular for very long. However, its origins go back to the 1970s. The punk and new wave sectors are considered important precursors for the development of alternative rock. Bands like The Clash, The Police, and the Sex Pistols hold influential positions far beyond their self-defined genre boundaries. In the 1980s, punk continued to be the driving force for the development of the genre that was not yet officially named: American hardcore bands like Black Flag or Agnostic Front mixed their style for the first time with elements of blues, hip-hop, and metal. As a result, more and more bands thrived beyond the mainstream and found themselves officially under the umbrella of alternative rock in the early 1990s. The highly successful grunge and crossover wave in the form of Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, and their peers paved the way for the big alternative boom in the mid-90s. Suddenly, the genre was known to almost everyone. Fundamentally different alternative rock bands like Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Pearl Jam were on heavy rotation on MTV. To this day, the genre is considered one of the main driving forces of modern rock music and is therefore also represented at major festivals with rank and name.
