Wasn't it just yesterday that Rock am Ring kicked things off with Mehnersmoos? Well, not quite. Almost three months have passed between the start of the 2026 summer festival season and today. Yes, we don't want to believe it ourselves either, but unfortunately, that's how it is.
The festival summer is drawing to a close, and what can we say? It was just as wild as ever. We're looking back on three months of live action, (mostly) endless sunshine, and plenty of fun. Rock am Ring: Line-up and Weather as Varied as Ever!
Okay, so the whole sunshine thing wasn't exactly a huge factor at Rock am Ring this year. Sure, the sun did make an appearance from time to time in early June, but overall, the festival in the Vulkaneifel region was as varied as we're used to—and we're not just talking about the weather. The line-up once again offered everything a rock, metal, alternative, and rap fan could ask for. Fans of nu metal were well catered for with Linkin Park, Papa Roach, and Limp Bizkit, while Bad Omens, Architects, Ice Nine Kills, Landmvrks, and Bury Tomorrow got the pits going for the metalcore crowd. And of course, scene legends such as Iron Maiden, Volbeat, The Offspring, and Electric Callboy also had everyone dancing.
90,000 visitors made their way to the Nürburgring this year, and Linkin Park's return to the Ring was certainly one of the weekend's biggest moments for many fans. We're already looking forward to next year, with Blink-182 announced as the first major headliner!
Impericon Festival: Hot, Hotter, Leipzig
Just a few weeks later, we continued with our much-loved Impericon Festival in Leipzig. On the last and ridiculously hot weekend of June, the Leipzig Trade Fair once again became the meeting point for the core community—and clearly, you were more than ready for it. Architects, Babymetal, Rise Against, and Landmvrks topped the bill, joined by acts such as Lionheart, Dying Wish, Bloodywood, Sleep Theory, and many more.
And what would an Impericon Festival be without some proper pits? Exactly. Despite the scorching temperatures, you gave it everything inside the air-conditioned exhibition halls, creating a little breeze with your circle and mosh pits. And despite temperatures of almost 40°C outside, you didn't seem exhausted at all. Why? Because you're simply the best community in the world!
Wacken Open Air: 35 Years of the (Dusty) Holy Ground
Of course, we can't and won't leave Wacken out of the picture. In 2026, the Open Air celebrated its 35th anniversary and once again lived up to its reputation as one of the world's most important metal festivals. The anniversary edition naturally sold out and was later described by the organizers as one of the best editions in the festival's history, featuring acts such as Judas Priest, Sabaton, Def Leppard, Powerwolf, In Flames, Arch Enemy, Thy Art Is Murder, Paleface Swiss, Bleed From Within, The Butcher Sisters, Heaven Shall Burn, and many, many more.
This year wasn't just about the big bands, though. It was also about the continued development of the Holy Ground. After the mud of previous years had caused plenty of discussion, the infrastructure was significantly upgraded: more ground panels, additional seating areas, and covered spaces were introduced to make the festival experience more comfortable. As it turned out, they weren't really necessary this year, because if there was one thing Wacken didn't have in 2026, it was rain and mud. With blazing summer temperatures and endless sunshine, the Holy Ground was more like a desert than a mudflat. Although, if you wanted the latter, you only had to travel a few kilometers further.
Reload Festival: Sweating in Sulingen
Then August arrived, bringing another heavy dose of heavy music with it. Reload Festival in Sulingen took place in mid-August and set a new attendance record with 20,000 visitors. No surprise, considering the line-up: Judas Priest made their debut in Sulingen, joined by In Flames, Arch Enemy, Lamb Of God, Avatar, and more. Even better, fans of core and extreme metal were once again very well catered for. The Ghost Inside, Thy Art Is Murder, Imminence, Paleface Swiss, Fit For An Autopsy, Northlane, Terror, Stick To Your Guns, and Signs Of The Swarm kept the crowds moving in front of the stages. Add the genre-spanning mix Reload is known for, ranging from metal and hardcore to punk and mainstream—and what more could you ask for? Or are you seriously going to tell us you didn't enjoy the Vengaboys?!
There were also some organizational changes in Sulingen. After the main stage had already been open for all three days in 2025, the concept continued in 2026. The new arrival system was also implemented, with routes divided by direction and dynamically adjusted depending on capacity. Does it work? Apparently, yes.
Summer Breeze Open Air: Hot Air Instead of a Summer Breeze
While things were heating up in the north at Reload, the south was just as hot in Dinkelsbühl. Summer Breeze has become one of the staples of the German festival summer, and 2026 was no exception. Helloween, In Flames, Arch Enemy, Hatebreed, Imminence, Thy Art Is Murder, The Ghost Inside, Paleface Swiss, and Fit For An Autopsy represented a line-up that covered pretty much the entire heavy music landscape.
From classic heavy metal and melodic death metal to gothic metal, hardcore, metalcore, and deathcore, there was something for practically every taste. And that's the beauty of it: you can spend the morning casually strolling around the site with a Bavarian beer in hand, only to find yourself in the middle of a completely chaotic pit a few hours later. That's what a festival should be!
And What Else?
Of course, the festival summer was far from over. Jera On Air in the Netherlands once again celebrated hardcore, punk, and metalcore, while Vainstream Rockfest in Münster traditionally brought together the core and punk communities. And of course, Nova Rock in Austria had to be part of our festival tour as well.
What do all these festivals have in common? They show just how diverse the rock and metal landscape has become. From stadium headliners to small scene acts, from nu metal, hardcore, deathcore, and punk to classic heavy metal, virtually every musical style now has a place.
And perhaps that's the best thing about festival season: You set off with a list of bands on your phone and come home with a completely different set of favorite acts.

Three months of festival season are slowly coming to an end. Three months full of mosh pits, crowdsurfing, sweaty shirts, dusty shoes, far too much unhealthy food, cold drinks, and above all, tons of music.
We saw huge bands, discovered smaller acts, made new friends, and probably bought way too much merch. Wait a second—there's no such thing as too much merch! But in short: it was exactly what a festival summer should be.
For now, it's time to sort through the photos, keep those last festival wristbands on our wrists for a little while longer, and look back on all the best moments. And then? Luckily, it won't be long until we can say once again: Wasn't it just yesterday that the next festival was announced?
