Slipknot - the common ground for all metal fans

As different as the tastes in metal can be: Everyone agrees on Slipknot and there are only a few metalheads who have no sympathy for the 9 members with their iconic masks from Des Moines, Iowa. Corey Taylor & Co. are considered one of the most influential and well-known bands of the last 20 years. They’re often mentioned with bands like Korn, Metallica, Linkin Park or System of a Down.

Slipknot - how masked men became one of the world’s best bands

It already became very clear at the beginning of their career: Slipknot are more than a band. An overall concept that combines the all-devastating musical frame with shocking lyrics, bizarre masks, a disturbing appearance and spectacular live shows. 

The year 1995 marks the beginning of the horror fairy tale. A year after the formation, the demo album MATE. FEED. KILL. REPEAT. was released. In 1999 the first official album SLIPKNOT was dropped through Roadrunner Records. It immediately earned a platinum award for Slipknot. This success was surpassed 2 years later with IOWA. With the recordings for VOL. 3 (THE SUBLIMINAL VERSES) they experimented with their sound for the first time. The result: Songs like “Before I Forget” or “Duality” are still among the band’s biggest hits to this day.

With the 2008 album ALL HOPE IS GONE is way softer, the follower turns it all to the limit. It was released 6 years later, because the band had to cope with the loss of Slipknot member & bassist Paul Gray. He died in May 2010 from an overdose. The band, after coming to terms with the death of their friend, decided to return to their roots. It can be heard on 2014’s .5: THE GRAY CHAPTER and 2019’s WE ARE NOT YOUR KIND.

Side projects of frontman Corey Taylor

Slipknot singer Corey Taylor is also known for a few side projects: In 1992, before Slipknot was founded, he founded the band Stone Sour. In addition, the all-round talent is quite successful as a solo artist. No wonder Corey Taylor has done a lot of guest appearances for other bands as well! For example, he appeared in the song “Drugs” by Falling in Reverse. Also in Korn’s Song “Different World” we can hear Taylor’s voice.
