Knocked Loose was founded in 2013 in the U.S. state of Kentucky (initially under the name Manipulator) and quickly became one of the most influential bands in the modern core scene. Their sound combines classic hardcore roots with metalcore elements, chaotic structures, and extreme emotional intensity. Especially the distinctive vocals of frontman Bryan Garris and the abrupt breakdowns create a strong recognition factor.
With early releases, the band quickly made a name for themselves in the scene. After some demos and splits with other acts, their breakthrough came with the first studio album Laugh Tracks (2016). The record redefined hardcore and brought Bryan Garris and the band attention from critics and new listeners. The music felt raw and unpredictable, resonating strongly with a new generation of fans. The album also introduced the iconic “Arf Arf” track Counting Worms, which remains a fan favorite and a staple of live shows.
Later releases, such as the EP Mistakes Like Fractures and the full-length album A Different Shade Of Blue (both 2019), further deepened this approach. The songs became darker, more complex, and emotionally charged. Lyrically, the band addresses inner conflicts, fear, anger, and loss of control—all elements that have a powerful impact in live performances.
The album You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To (2024) introduced the iconic glowing cross, which is now a permanent part of the live set. A highlight from this LP is the track Suffocate featuring Poppy, which the two acts performed together on the U.S. television show Jimmy Kimmel Live, achieving viral success.
