A new Slipknot album is on the way, and the band is actively in the studio. Guitarist Jim Root provided an update via social media just yesterday, sharing a video and caption straight from the recording studio:
“This is where I'll spend the rest of the year. [...] Because as you know by now… We're about to get real busy.”
The new single “Arsenal” has already been available for streaming alongside its music video since September 9 – so more new music is bound to follow sooner or later.
Next Record Won’t Be Another “The End, So Far”
After tour dates for America and the UK in 2027 were announced earlier this week, Root also took the time to address some fan concerns and questions regarding the new album. In response to a very direct plea to “not make another The End, So Far”, his reply was simply, “Agreed.” Feedback from the Maggots regarding the 2022 album wasn't overly enthusiastic, but this time around, the record's vibe is heading in a different direction:
“The vibe feels honest and true to me. It’s uneasy and reminds me of recording in the earlier days. I’m not saying that means it will translate to the type of music we’re creating or the sound/production of it. The early records had the vibe. You can’t miss that with Ross.”
He is referring to producer Ross Robinson, with whom the band previously worked on their self-titled debut, before continuing their journey together on Iowa.
Root teased further:
“We did track on the floor live with Eloy [Casagrande]. We hadn’t done that in a long time for various reasons. Everything is analogue and played. All the pieces that need to be there are there.”
And what should come as a relief to many fans: whether concerning their early albums or the recent additions to their discography, the band has no intention of creating a copy-paste job:
“[A] very important thing for us at this time is to not ‘repeat’ ourselves. It’s gonna hurt some feelings. We’re really experimenting with different approaches. Don't expect another Iowa or Slipknot record. We've been there.”
