At the 67th Grammy Awards, an unusual mix-up occurred on the red carpet: Spiritbox frontwoman Courtney LaPlante, who was nominated alongside her band for Best Metal Performance with their song “Cellar Door”, was mistakenly identified as Poppy during an interview. Poppy was also nominated in the same category for “Suffocate”, her collaboration with Knocked Loose.
Instead of correcting the mistake, LaPlante decided to play along – and delivered one of the funniest moments of the night.
LaPlante Stays In Character – And Delivers Laughs
So, what exactly happened? When an interviewer mistakenly referred to her as Poppy, LaPlante didn’t flinch – and improvised a moment of pure entertainment:
"I’m Poppy, and I’m so excited to be here and be nominated with Knocked Loose. I really hope we win!"
But she didn’t stop there: LaPlante fully embraced the role, recalling actual moments from Poppy’s recent past and even dropping subtle hints about her real identity.
When asked how many women were nominated in the Metal category, she cleverly responded:
"I haven’t looked into it, but I just always know that it’s time for one of us to win. And I hope it’s either me or Spiritbox. Courtney is amazing."
Throughout the entire interview, she kept up the act, discussing her supposed performance with Knocked Loose on Jimmy Kimmel, talking about women in metal, and turning the moment into one of the night’s most entertaining highlights.

Spiritbox & Poppy Leave Empty-Handed – Grammy Winner Announced
In the end, neither Spiritbox nor Poppy took home the Grammy for Best Metal Performance. The award went to Gojira for their official Olympic Opening Theme for Paris, “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)”.
Even though she didn’t take home the award, fans celebrated LaPlante for her quick-witted response – once again proving why she and Spiritbox are among the most exciting acts in the metal scene.
