Who Are Whitechapel?
The group comes from Tennessee in the USA and was founded in 2006. Initially considered an insider tip, the band's brutal style and distinctive voice of frontman Phil Bozeman quickly became their trademark and caught the attention of labels. Their early albums are stylistically influenced by deathgrind, including their debut The Somatic Defilement. Later, their sound evolved towards modern death metal, as heard on the album A New Era Of Corruption. However, they returned to deathcore with The Valley. They have long been popular at festivals and tours throughout Europe. Rock am Ring and Rock im Park are just two examples, as well as the Never Say Die Tour, where they have played multiple times with bands like Parkway Drive and Thy Art Is Murder.
Where Does The Band Name Come From?
The musicians derived their band name from the Whitechapel district in London. It is the same district where Jack The Ripper committed most of his murders in the 19th century. The band's debut album, The Somatic Defilement, thematically deals with the serial killer. Only two songs, "Alone in the Morgue" and "Festering Fiesta," deviate from this concept, with the latter being about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
