Anyone born between March 21 and April 20 can proudly call themselves an Aries. Charging headfirst through walls – that’s the reputation Aries are known for. We’ve put together a list of musicians who take that attitude quite literally and not only break through walls musically, but absolutely go all in. Happy birthday!
Anders Fridén – In Flames
Birthday: March 25, 1973
Anders Fridén, singer of In Flames, was born on March 25, 1973 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Or something like that. The frontman has been part of the melodic death metal giants since 1995, replacing Mikael Stanne, who then became the sole lead singer of Dark Tranquillity—where Fridén had previously been on vocals while Stanne initially handled lead guitar and backing vocals. A funny little game of musical chairs!
Angus Young – AC/DC
Birthday: March 31, 1955
Angus Young, co-founder and lead guitarist of AC/DC, was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1955. At the age of 8, his family emigrated to Australia, where he quickly found his musical roots—only to go on and form AC/DC at 18 together with his brother Malcolm Young (†).
Gerard Way – My Chemical Romance
Birthday: April 9, 1977
Gerard Way is also an Aries and celebrates his birthday in April. The singer of the emo/post-hardcore band My Chemical Romance will probably sing himself a little birthday serenade—starting with that iconic high G note. If you know, you know. He founded MCR in 2001 and remains the band’s vocalist to this day, even after their six-year hiatus.
Steven Tyler – Aerosmith
Birthday: March 26, 1948
Also an Aries is our “Demon of Screamin’,” Steven Tyler, lead singer of Aerosmith. He founded the band in 1970 and became world-famous with them. He is particularly known for his wide vocal range, which earned him his famous nickname.
Alex Koehler – Ex-Chelsea Grin
Birthday: April 4, 1991
From 2007 to 2018, Alex Koehler lent his distinctive voice to Chelsea Grin. The band eventually parted ways with him due to ongoing addiction issues, but he helped shape some of their most successful albums, such as My Damnation (2011) and Ashes to Ashes (2014).
Mike Mangini – Ex-Dream Theater
Birthday: April 18, 1963
Mike Mangini filled in for drummer Mike Portnoy in Dream Theater while he was on hiatus between 2010 and 2023. The drummer is also an Aries, and seems to have the animal’s temperament in his blood, having set five records for fastest drumming between 2002 and 2005. Crazy!
Yukina – Hanabie.
Birthday: April 17, 1991
As the long-time vocalist, Yukina has played a major role in shaping the sound of Hanabie. The band from Tokyo is known for their “Harajuku-core,” named after the district of the Japanese capital they come from—with Yukina’s screams adding that special edge.
Dave Holland (†) – Judas Priest
Birthday: April 5, 1948
Dave Holland played drums for Judas Priest from 1979 to 1989. During that time, he contributed to some of the band’s most defining albums, including British Steel and Screaming for Vengeance. He passed away in 2018 after battling cancer. Rest in peace.
