Die 2021 in Castrop-Rauxel gegründeten Samurai Pizza Cats kehren mit ihrem zweiten Album „Press Start“ zurück. Das Album folgt auf das Debütalbum „You're Hellcome“, das 2023 veröffentlicht wurde. Das Quartett, das seinen Namen einer Anime-Serie aus den 1990er Jahren entlehnt hat, etablierte sich schnell in der Metalcore-Szene durch seine Mischung aus Metalcore- und Trancecore-Elementen – mit einer Prise Ironie und witzigen, aber dennoch geistreichen Texten als Kernstück ihres Sounds. Anfang 2025 bei Century Media Records unter Vertrag genommen, zeichnet sich ihr neues Album durch seine verspielte Geschichte aus,
in der man in ein Spiel mit eigenen Charakteren eintaucht, die durch das Artwork des Albums zum Leben erweckt werden. Von
Dinosauriern über Pinguine bis hin zu pizzaessenden Außerirdischen glänzt „Press Start“ mit einem verspielten, comicartigen Konzept und schafft eine einzigartige Welt, die es zu entdecken gilt.
Die Band scheut sich zwar nicht vor Figuren, die optisch nach Niedlichkeit schreien, aber ihre Musik ist voller heftiger Breakdowns, die die Verspieltheit aufrechterhalten, während jeder Song sein eigenes Kapitel bildet. Mit der (Anti-)Heldenhymne „Superzero“ und dem partytauglichen „Panderstruck“ lädt die Band dazu ein, sich gehen zu lassen, mit chaotischer Energie gepaart mit witzigen, unterhaltsamen Texten. Ruhigere Momente zum Mitsingen entstehen mit „City of Gold”, das sich fast wie das letzte Kapitel anfühlt, bevor die Band „Pizza Homicide” zurückbringt, neu interpretiert mit DJ STVW (verspielt platziert nach dem Outro „Thanks for Playing” – eine Zugabe für das Album selbst). „Press Start“ wäre ohne Gastauftritte keine vollständige Geschichte: Die Künstler
Ankor („T-Rex(plosion)”), BABYBEARD („Ramen-Man”) und STVW („Pizza Homicide STVW Version”) verleihen dem Album
zusätzliche Würze und steigern seinen Charme durch ihren eigenen Stil.
