It’s been twenty years... in August 2006, Heaven Shall Burn released the fourth album in their now far more extensive discography. Following their 2000 debut Asunder and subsequent records Whatever It May Take and Antigone, Deaf To Our Prayers didn't just blend into their history—it significantly shaped it.

Until then "only" known within the heavy music scene, their new record landed in the official German album charts at position #22. From then on, things only went upward – Iconoclast, Invictus, and further long-players kept proving how firmly HSB had established themselves in the metal and core scene, internationally as well. Then with Of Truth and Sacrifice in 2020, they made the—no longer quite so massive—leap to #1 in Germany. That and more defines the moving journey of the German band over the past 20 years, up until 2025 when their tenth studio album Heimat was released.

We congratulate our friends in Heaven Shall Burn on the 20th anniversary of this milestone – Deaf To Our Prayers!

HSB: Looking Back at “Deaf To Our Prayers”

Thinking back to Deaf To Our Prayers"Counterweight" immediately comes to mind for all the right reasons. The record's opener, an absolute heavyweight, the album's live anthem, and officially so for decades now.

But aside from this unforgettable fan (and band) favorite, the album had so much more to offer. We think of emotional lyrics, melodic death metal riffs that are now tied to a healthy dose of nostalgia, and for all fans from that era, seriously heavy live shows.

But HSB themselves also looked back at this period in an interview. Which songs, lyrics, and festival shows surrounding the album still move them and why was revealed by Maik Weichert and Marcus Bischoff in our “Top 3 Deaf To Our Prayers Special”:

We’re already looking forward to an equally nostalgic look back at Iconoclast in two years – time simply doesn't stand still. For now, though, that means giving Deaf To Our Prayers another full listen and taking a real trip back to the time when you first discovered the album.
