Parkway Drive was founded in 2003 in Byron Bay, Australia, and has since grown into one of the most well-known metal acts worldwide. Vocalist Winston McCall and his bandmates have developed their own distinctive sound, combining powerful vocals with catchy melodies and emotional lyrics. Central themes in their songs include relatable struggles such as fear of loss and self-reflection, as well as social resistance and unity.
With their debut album Killing With A Smile 2005 and the follow-up records Horizons 2007 and Deep Blue 2010, the band quickly gained international attention. The latter in particular is considered a milestone of modern metalcore, showcasing the band’s early ability to combine intense emotion with technically demanding musicianship without losing authenticity. With Atlas 2012, the band continued blending epic songwriting with melodic heaviness, while Ire 2015 marked a clear evolution in their sound and introduced a stronger political and social dimension.
With Reverence 2018, PWD gradually moved beyond raw metalcore, and with Darker Still 2022, they firmly established themselves as a cornerstone of modern metal.
