The History of Twenty One Pilots
Putting the musical mix of Twenty One Pilots under one banner is challenging because the guys from Ohio
don’t fit into any box - and they clearly don’t want to. They move in the realm of Hip-Hop, Trip-Hop, and Alternative. Here and there, you can hear influences from acts like Mattafix,
Hollywood Undead, or
Enter Shikari - in other songs, the characteristic features of these acts are entirely absent. Twenty One Pilots stand out with their irresistible and very creative way of writing music. Street guys who live their sound as an art form and share their message and vision expressively with their fans, the “Skeleton Clique.” The
year 2009 marks the birth of the band. From the beginning, the group around frontman and band heart Tyler Joseph experimented with various styles. This leads to the group performing with Metal bands, Hardcore bands, and Electronica bands. They simply don’t want to be cornered or pigeonholed. Instead, they want to reach diverse audiences and create a common ground. The guys early on incorporated masks, costumes, and other show elements into their concerts to garner additional attention.
At the end of 2009, they self-released their
debut album TWENTY ONE PILOTS.
