Sometimes, it doesn't take much to make a song hit you right in the feels: a few atmospheric guitars, emotional vocals, and then suddenly a breakdown that hits with full force. Acres have this combination down to a fine art. The British band blends melodic post-hardcore with modern metalcore and lyrics dealing with loss, self-doubt, and personal struggles. With their 2025 album The Host, the group further developed its sound and showed an even heavier side. That's more than enough reason to take a closer look at the band!

Who Are Acres?

Acres hail from Portsmouth, England, and have been active since 2011. Over the years, the band has undergone several musical changes. While their early releases were more deeply rooted in screamo and melodic hardcore, their sound gradually evolved toward post-hardcore and alternative metal. The change in vocalist in 2015 played a particularly important role in this development: Ben Lumber brought more clean vocals and melodic elements into the mix, which remain an important part of the band's sound to this day.

With their debut album Lonely World, released in 2019, the band demonstrated just how well atmospheric passages, emotional melodies, and heavier outbursts can work together. Burning Throne followed in 2023, taking Acres further toward alternative metal and modern metalcore. By this point, it was clear that the band wasn't afraid to explore new musical territory.

Between Post-Hardcore, Metalcore, and Raw Emotion

Musically, Acres sit somewhere between post-hardcore, melodic metalcore, and alternative metal. Their songs thrive on the interplay between calm, atmospheric moments and explosive bursts of intensity. Sometimes clean vocals and big choruses take center stage; at other times, things get noticeably darker and heavier. This dynamic keeps the British band's music both emotional and captivating.

If you're into bands that combine catchy melodies with heavy guitars, Acres should be right up your alley. Post-hardcore influences meet modern metalcore elements without the band losing its melodic edge. Rather than relying on heaviness all the time, the musicians give their songs room to breathe before charging ahead again the very next moment.

For a good introduction, check out “Lonely World,” “My Everything,” and “Nothing.” These tracks showcase different sides of the band and demonstrate just how well Acres combine emotional vocals with hard-hitting instrumentals. If you want to dive deeper into their newer, heavier material, be sure to add “Bloodlust,” “Staring At The Sun,” and “Built To Bleed” to your playlist, too.

The Host: When Personal Struggles Meet Heavy Riffs

In May 2025, Acres released their third studio album, The Host. The record builds on the direction established by Burning Throne and continues the band's sonic evolution. The guitars hit harder, the production sounds modern, and the songs move between melodic hooks and heavy passages. At the same time, the emotional core that has defined Acres since their earlier releases remains intact.

Lyrically, The Host explores difficult emotions, inner conflicts, and personal experiences. Songs like “Bloodlust” and “Staring At The Sun” show how the band turns these themes into captivating tracks. Acres don't simply rely on a dark atmosphere; they also give their songs a sense of grandeur. The choruses are particularly memorable, while the heavier passages deliver the necessary impact.

“Push Me Away,” featuring Landon Tewers of The Plot In You, also fits this picture perfectly. The collaboration brings together two musical worlds that share plenty of common ground in their blend of emotional intensity and modern metalcore.

New Versions and a HIM Cover: The Host Gets an Upgrade

There's more for fans of the band to discover in 2026. On November 6, another deluxe edition of The Host is set to arrive, bringing together additional tracks and alternative versions. One highlight is a cover of “Buried Alive By Love” by Finnish band HIM. The expanded release also includes additional tracks such as “Leave You To Rot,” “A Different Shade Of Misery,” and “Deadweight,” along with acoustic versions and a remix of “Bloodlust” by deletetheinternet.

Acres Live: The British Band Is Touring Europe

If you want to experience Acres beyond your headphones, fall 2026 offers the chance to do just that. The band is currently on its The Host UK/EU Tour, its first headlining tour in three years. Joining them on the road are Wayside, What Lies Below, and Lifespark.

Several shows are also scheduled in Germany. The remaining dates are:

  • October 29, 2026: Munich, Feierwerk

  • October 31, 2026: Cologne, Helios37

  • November 1, 2026: Wiesbaden, Schlachthof

Why You Should Have Acres on Your Radar

Acres are a great choice for anyone who enjoys modern metalcore but also appreciates melodic and atmospheric passages. If you're into bands like The Plot In You, Holding Absence, or Bury Tomorrow, this British outfit could be right up your alley. The combination of emotional vocals, hard-hitting guitars, and catchy choruses works just as well for quieter moments as it does in the middle of a mosh pit.

The band is particularly interesting for listeners who like their music to explore personal themes. The lyrics deal with loss, inner conflict, and difficult relationships without sacrificing the songs' energy. Acres manage to combine vulnerability with heaviness, and that's exactly what makes their sound so accessible.

With the upcoming deluxe edition of The Host and their current European tour, there are several reasons to get to know the band better. So if you're in the mood for modern metalcore with an emotional edge, you should definitely add Acres to your playlist!
