As early as 2010, George Lucas was entertaining ideas for a live-action series in the Star Wars universe, but the writers' strike in 2007 and 2008 put the brakes on the project. After a break of almost 10 years, it was announced in 2017 that the project was back on the agenda. Filming finally began in 2018, with Jon Favreau, Deborah Chow, Dave Filoni and Carl Weathers directing. A second season has also been in the can since March 2020.

The main role is played by Pedro Pascal, who might be familiar to series fans from Game of Thrones. There he embodies Prince Oberyn Martell. By the way, the leading actor does not appear at all in Part 4, as it is a very stunt-heavy episode. The stuntmen wore his costume, the dialogue was recorded afterwards. Similar to Game of Thrones, an episode of The Mandalorian costs between 13 and 15 million dollars to produce.
