Beginnings And Evolution

Formed in 2005 in Oxford, England, Foals quickly evolved from their experimental beginnings to become one of the leading names in Indie Rock. Band members Yannis Philippakis (vocals, guitar), Jimmy Smith (guitar, keyboard), Jack Bevan (drums), and Walter Gervers (bass) brought experiences from other musical projects to Foals. Significant lineup changes, such as the departure of bassist Walter Gervers in 2018 and his rejoining in 2023, have influenced the band's dynamics without diminishing their creative output. Their music, released under labels like Transgressive, has brought them onto a global stage. With albums like Antidotes (2008) and What Went Down (2015), they have gained not only critical acclaim but also a loyal fanbase. Their discography is marked by constant evolution, with each album exploring new musical territories. The band has received numerous awards, including the 2020 Brit Award for Best British Group and the NME Award for Best Live Act, underlining their reputation as exceptional live performers.
