The rumor mill has been spinning for a while now when it comes to a new Slipknot album, and Jim Root has just added fuel to the fire. As the masked metal icons prepare for their headlining show at Rock am Ring 2025, Root has shared a few promising updates: he’s already developed ten fresh song ideas for what will be their eighth studio release.
New material in the works – but no pressure
In a recent interview, Root explained that while he’s been hard at work writing, he still wants to generate more ideas before jumping into pre-production. There's already "six finished arrangements" and four more that he's currently working on.
There may even be new music before the next full album:
“I would really like to release something before we start working on a record. I would like to get something out sooner to kinda satisfy… I don’t know if it would show a direction or not, it depends on what arrangement it is.”
That all sounds more than promising — and with their massive Rock am Ring 2025 headliner appearance just around the corner, the excitement for what’s next from Slipknot is only growing.
