In June 2025, an absolute highlight of the animation film world suddenly went online on Netflix – seemingly out of nowhere: “KPop Demon Hunters.” The hype was everywhere from one day to the next – viral on TikTok and record-breaking numbers for Sony Pictures Animation. K-Pop fans around the world watched the film, which impresses on several levels: humor, storyline, animation, and soundtrack. As soon as the work was released, fans were already calling for a sequel from all sides. So, what’s the status of “KPop Demon Hunters 2”?
Netflix: Part 2 and adaptations in the works
Even just because of the emotional film finale, the demand for a second part is high. For Netflix, the franchise remains interesting due to its success, of course. According to the online news portal TheWrap, Netflix has already planned several projects for “KPop Demon Hunters.” Among them, not only the highly anticipated sequel, but also a possible live-action adaptation and a musical.
“TheWrap has learned that ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ is about to expand into a number of related projects – including sequels and a live-action version.”
Although there are no official announcements yet, that seems to be just a matter of time. After all, the hyped film about the demon-hunting KPop group HUNTR/X has, in no time, become the most successful animated film from Sony Pictures Animation – even ahead of the popular Spider-Verse films. On top of that, it is now officially the most popular animated film of all time on Netflix.
“KPop Demon Hunters” is therefore well on its way to part 2. We’ll keep an eye on the news!
Reason for success: An authentic soundtrack
The enormous success of the film is due, among other things, to a strong soundtrack, as well as collaboration with KPop experts and real idols from South Korea. The well-known girl group Twice contributed a song to the soundtrack with their version of “TAKEDOWN.” In addition, producers from BTS and Blackpink were involved – two of the most famous groups of the genre. The voice actor of Jinu also already had his debut with the group One O One, which was active only until 2019. These collaborations were what really created trust and recognition among KPop fans.
