Alongside the major, previously announced headliners Def Leppard, Powerwolf, and Judas Priest, Wacken Open Air has now revealed the truly final headliner for 2026: Sabaton will crown the festival poster and celebrate this massive milestone on the Holy Ground of metal—35 years of Wacken.
Sabaton themselves commented:
"It’s with massive excitement and deep respect that we’re returning to the hallowed grounds of Wacken Open Air in Germany, where we last unleashed our legendary two-stage show in 2019 – an absolutely crazy night!"
"Seven years later, we are back and we can't wait to end our summer season by headlining and closing the biggest heavy metal festival in the world, together with the loudest, wildest and most dedicated fans on the planet. Let's make it another legendary night to remember!"
Naturally, the festival founders themselves are thrilled about Sabaton's return. Holger Hübner stated:
“Wacken and Sabaton share a long history. Seven years ago, the band celebrated their 20th anniversary with us – now it’s our turn! It's the 35th edition of Wacken and Sabaton are joining us on our anniversary!”
He is joined by co-founder Thomas Jensen, who addressed the high demand from the fanbase:
“Sabaton were a band that many fans wanted to see at Wacken Open Air again. We’re thrilled to be able to make that wish come true, for them and for ourselves. It’s going to be legendary!”
This year's Wacken Open Air will take place from July 29 to August 1, 2026. Sabaton are expected to bring a tracklist filled with their greatest live anthems, songs from their current album Legends, and new singles like “Yamato.” Furthermore, fans can look forward to performances by In Flames, Lamb Of God, Arch Enemy, Sepultura, Thy Art Is Murder, Hatebreed, and many more.
