If you appreciate songs with meaning while also loving music that hits like a ton of bricks, you’ll certainly feel right at home with deathcore. This extreme metal genre is more present in the scene than ever. Bands like Lorna Shore, Whitechapel, Thy Art Is Murder, Paleface Swiss, and more have given a massive boost to this musical style, which has found its sweet spot somewhere between death metal and metalcore. Here are 10 deathcore bands you should know if you prefer a heavier pace.

Lorna Shore

When talking about modern deathcore, you absolutely cannot ignore Lorna Shore. The band has been on everyone's lips, especially since vocalist Will Ramos joined. The singer has been part of the US combo since 2021 and is known for his massive vocal range. He first appeared on the EP ...And I Return To Nothingness (2021) and the subsequent album Pain Remains (2022), which reached the top 10 of the album charts in Germany. Crazy for an extreme metal record! But Lorna Shore aren't just a force musically; they are a powerhouse live, as demonstrated by their headliner concerts, which now sell out lightning-fast. A band that deathcore fans simply cannot miss.

Whitechapel

Whitechapel have been in the business for several years and can rightfully claim to be one of the great constants in the scene; four of the six band members are still from the original 2006 lineup. Over the years, the band surrounding frontman Phil Bozeman has changed their style slightly but has never truly left deathcore at its core. While things were very brutal in the early days, they experimented a bit on The Valley (2019) and Kin (2021) before going "back to the roots" on Hymns In Dissonance (2025). Bozeman processes deeply personal themes in the lyrics, giving the songs a powerful sense of depth.

Thy Art Is Murder

Thy Art Is Murder have significantly helped shape deathcore over the last few years. The Australians combine heavy sounds with a clear stance. Albums like Hate (2012) or Human Target (2019) show how brutal and yet structured deathcore can sound if you listen closely. Since 2023, they have been on the road with Tyler Miller on the microphone, who has given the sound a new touch. Content-wise, TAIM often deal with social and political grievances, religion, or environmental destruction, which also adds a special depth to the tracks. This mix of power and message makes Thy Art Is Murder an absolute must for genre fans.

Paleface Swiss

Paleface Swiss are currently one of the most sought-after bands in the extreme metal scene. The Swiss band relies on raw, unfiltered aggression that hits you right in the gut. They don't mess around, and especially when frontman Marc “Zelli” Zellweger showcases his vocal prowess, no stone is left unturned. Despite the "aggressive" mentality, the band manages to provide their songs with structure and a certain groove—defined chaos à la Slipknot. Especially since the album Cursed (2025), Paleface Swiss are not only the talk of the town but also an indispensable part of international festival lineups.

Suicide Silence

When talking about deathcore, Suicide Silence must not be forgotten. The band is one of the absolute pioneers of the genre and set benchmarks in extreme metal with early releases like The Cleansing (2007). Even though the combo has evolved over the years and changed its sound, its influence remains undeniable. The early sound of Suicide Silence, particularly under the influence of singer Mitch Lucker, who held the microphone until his death in 2012, laid the foundation for many modern acts and still shapes the scene today. Eddie Hermida followed in 2013, significantly influencing the more recent "SuSi" sound.

Fit For An Autopsy

For Fit For An Autopsy, one thing is paramount in their music: the meaning of the lyrics. In interviews, the US band surrounding frontman Joe Badolato repeatedly emphasizes that they want to draw attention to social and political issues with their songs—a trait more commonly found in hardcore. Musically, things get just as intense, because the focus here is on moving forward. The mixture of socially critical themes and a dense soundscape sets FFAA apart from many other acts in deathcore. It’s not just about breakdown after breakdown, but about a total concept that sticks with you.

Shadow Of Intent

Shadow Of Intent follow an epic path, similar to Lorna Shore. The band combines classic deathcore with symphonic elements, creating a sound that feels massive—almost like a soundtrack. Dark themes and even overarching concepts that run through entire releases are often at the center. Mythology or philosophical questions of life are major topics here, for example. For fans of Lorna Shore, the troupe led by singer Ben Duerr is definitely a mandatory check.

Chelsea Grin

Chelsea Grin, like Suicide Silence or Whitechapel, belong to the "old guard" of deathcore and have accompanied and helped shape the genre for many years. The band stands for an extremely direct and aggressive sound that has evolved significantly—not least due to several lineup changes over the years. However, even after the changes, the core remains: heavy riffs, brutal vocals, and songs that ensure absolute escalation live.

Brand Of Sacrifice

Brand Of Sacrifice are among the somewhat younger genre representatives and bring a healthy dose of fresh air to deathcore with their modern sound. The band combines the familiar heaviness with electronic elements and modern production techniques, giving their sound a very distinct note. Added to this are thematic influences from anime and pop culture that round out the overall image. The Canadian band has done a lot right and created a true unique selling point through the details in their band concept.

Bodysnatcher

Bodysnatcher show us a particularly raw side of deathcore. The band from Florida largely avoids grand bells and whistles and instead relies on what truly counts: pressure and maximum aggression. The songs go straight ahead, breakdowns are perfectly timed and ensure absolute escalation, especially live. We can tell you, no shirt will stay dry here. Bodysnatcher show that straight deathcore can be incredibly effective! Fun fact: three of the four band members are named Kyle. They were clearly meant to be!
