Heaven Shall Burn have been among the most influential bands in the international – and especially German – metalcore and death metal scene for years. With political conviction, crushing sound, and intense lyrics, they’ve built a huge and loyal fanbase since their formation in the 1990s. Today, in honor of their current album Heimat, we present an overview of some of their defining tracks – from early classics to new milestones!

Numbered Days

With “Numbered Days,” Heaven Shall Burn deliver a powerful reinterpretation of the Killswitch Engage classic – together with Jesse Leach, the original singer of the US band. The song is part of HSB’s 2025 album Heimat.

Counterweight

“Counterweight” is one of the best-known tracks by Heaven Shall Burn and a milestone of their breakthrough. The song appeared in 2006 on the album Deaf to Our Prayers and captures the tension between melodic death metal and hardcore in its purest form.

Combat

The song “Combat” was released in 2010 on the album Invictus (Iconoclast III) and counts among the most aggressive and direct tracks of the band. It deals with war and, above all, the issue of child soldiers – with furious riffs and a palpable sense of urgency.

Hunters Will Be Hunted

“Hunters Will Be Hunted” is another haunting track from the 2013 album Veto. In terms of content, the band addresses the topic of animal protection, wrapping their message in an emotionally charged song with strong dynamics.

Protector

“Protector” was released in 2020 as one of the first previews from the double album Of Truth and Sacrifice. The track stands out with its driving rhythm and a clear message of hope.

Black Tears

With “Black Tears,” Heaven Shall Burn covered a melancholic piece by Swedish death metal band Edge of Sanity. Their version was released in 2008 on the album Iconoclast (Part 1: The Final Resistance) and remains the band’s most well-known song to this day. Lyrically, the deeply emotional track deals with themes of depression and suicidal thoughts.

Endzeit

“Endzeit” is a prime example of Heaven Shall Burn’s ability to fuse heaviness with conviction. The track also comes from the album Iconoclast (Part 1: The Final Resistance) and remains a traditional and special part of their live shows to this day.
