Green Day already teased their new film, originally titled “New Year's Rev”, in early 2025. In the meantime, the coming-of-age flick has been dubbed “Nimrods”, a first trailer has been released, and two international cinema dates have been announced. The screenings are set to take place on August 11 and 14, 2026. Billie Joe, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool all served as executive producers on the project—now, it's just a little over a month until fans can see the film in its entirety.
Kymberli Frueh from Trafalgar Releasing discusses the message of “Nimrods”:
"Nimrods is a celebration of friendship, music and chasing the seemingly impossible dream. The film is inspired by the energy and attitude that defined a generation who witnessed Green Day's meteoric rise to the top. It's a testament to the band's enduring cultural impact that continues to attract new fans today."
Last summer, Billie Joe also expressed his enthusiasm about the film's content as well as the acting performances:
“The actors were great. I’ve been seeing a little bit of footage. It’s based on some of our early adventures – of course it’s been tweaked a little bit, but it’s gonna be really fun. It’s kind of a holiday movie because it’s set on New Year’s Eve. It’s got a lot of heart and it’s also really funny. It’s about three young kids that are following their dream to be in a band, and do whatever it takes to travel the country. That’s something that we definitely can relate to.”
