Dayseeker manage like few other bands in the genre to blend raw post-hardcore tunes with deeply emotional depth. Frontman Rory Rodriguez plays a huge role in that. With his unique voice, he not only gives the music a strong sense of identity but also pours his deepest thoughts and feelings into the songs. It’s no surprise that the California band quickly built a large fanbase soon after forming in 2012.
Today, Dayseeker have six studio albums to their name. Their discography reached its latest peak just last year with the release of their current record Creature In The Black Night. Six full-length albums offer plenty of potential for hits — and the band definitely has them. We’ve picked 10 songs you absolutely should know!
Sleeptalk
In 2019, Dayseeker released their fourth full-length album Sleeptalk. The title track is now the band’s most streamed song on Spotify. The interplay of atmospheric passages and powerful, almost painful vocals makes it impossible not to feel along and sing along. According to Rory Rodriguez, the song deals with toxic relationships and the inability to break free from them. The accompanying music video reflects exactly this theme.
Afterglow (Hazel’s Song)
The 2022 album Dark Sun is a particularly meaningful record for Rory Rodriguez, as he processes the loss of his father, who passed away in 2021. Shortly before his father’s death, Rory became a father himself, making that time especially complex and emotional. He dedicated “Afterglow (Hazel’s Song)” not only to his daughter Hazel but also used it to process the loss of his dad. It’s a track about endings and new beginnings that hits especially hard with this context.
Pale Moonlight
“Pale Moonlight” is not only the opener of the 2025 album Creature In The Black Night but was also the first single released even before the album announcement. Musically, it’s a shade darker than its predecessor Dark Sun. The song carries a strong sense of self-destruction, focusing on the inability to break free from problematic patterns and structures, even when you’re fully aware of them.
What It Means To Be Defeated
“What It Means To Be Defeated” is the title track of Dayseeker’s 2013 debut album. With their first record, the Californians were still flying under the radar but quickly found recognition in the scene. Musically, it’s heavier — post-hardcore at its finest. Lyrically, Rory Rodriguez processes the emotions following a painful breakup, and the title track also explores betrayal and pain, making it deeply relatable.
The World Was Quiet
Grab the tissues — this one’s emotional. “The World Was Quiet” from the 2016 album Origin tries to mend broken hearts. The song is about a failed relationship that collapsed due to mistakes, lies, and infidelity. The emotional vocals combined with catchy guitar riffs make it especially memorable. It could easily have come from the emo era of early Silverstein.
Crawl Back To My Coffin
Heartbreak runs through almost every release in Dayseeker’s discography. Fast forward to 2025 and the album Creature In The Black Night — once again, we find songs about broken hearts and souls. In “Crawl Back To My Coffin,” Rory Rodriguez sings about how painful it is to be hurt again as an emotionally fragile person, even after finding the courage to rise from your grave.
Burial Plot
Speaking of heartbreak and feeling emotionally dead… “Burial Plot” has become a true anthem for people suffering from lovesickness. The track from Sleeptalk almost literally describes the pain you go through after a breakup — burying a shared past and emotionally dying together. If Dayseeker collected the tears shed during performances of this song, they could probably fill several backyard pools.
Vultures
TW: Experiences with sexualized violence.
In 2017, Dayseeker released their first major-label album Dreaming Is Sinking /// Waking Is Rising via Spinefarm. The track “Vultures” tackles the trauma following sexual assault. Sung from the perspective of the survivor, it portrays the inner battle of the many emotions such experiences trigger. The accompanying music video is equally intense.
Without Me
Although Dark Sun is heavily shaped by Rory Rodriguez’s grieving process after his father’s death, the album also includes songs that differ thematically — and of course heartbreak tracks. “Without Me” explores the feeling of neglect after a relationship ends, with lyrics that pose unanswered questions to a former partner.
Shapeshift
On “Shapeshift” from the 2025 album Creature In The Black Night, Rory Rodriguez processes his anxiety and sings about how it affects his daily life. The song focuses on transformation — the “shapeshift” caused by fear — and the draining process that leaves you feeling like a shadow of yourself.
