Rise To The Death Metal Champions League

The band took their first steps in 1988. However, it took about two years until a final lineup was found. After self-releasing their first demo, the guys signed with Relapse Records. The EP Human Waste was followed by the debut album Effigy of the Forgotten. Roadrunner Records took notice of Suffocation, leading the guys to join one of the world's most renowned metal labels. With Breeding the Spawn (1993), Suffocation presented themselves as significantly matured and impressed with sophisticated songwriting. This development continued on their follow-up Pierced From Within, where Suffocation shone with their entire musical prowess. The album is still considered their best by many critics and fans. The quintet reached the premier league of death metal and toured around the world. However, they disbanded in 1998, and it took five years for them to reunite.

Comeback In 2003

The celebrated comeback performances at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival, Milwaukee Metal Festival, and Headbanger's Ball are legendary. With Souls To Deny, Suffocation picked up right where they left off a few years prior: delivering hard, fast, and technically demanding Death Metal. They followed this with extensive tours alongside acts like Morbid Angel, Misery Index, and The Black Dahlia Murder. In 2012, Frank Mullen and co. were inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame - a testament to the deep musical impact the guys have made in and around New York. Even on their 2017 album …Of the Dark Light, Suffocation didn't hold back and skillfully showcased their strengths. It was the last album with founding member and frontman Frank Mullen, who retired from his music career after a final tour with Suffocation in 2018. Since then, Ricky Myers has been on vocals and continues the band's journey with Suffocation!
