It’s that time again: Record Store Day 2025 is just around the corner, taking place on April 12th, and, like every year, it promises plenty of highlights for music lovers and collectors. Maybe you’ve already spotted a special release from your favorite artist, or perhaps this is your first time and you’re just looking to explore what’s on offer. If a few questions come up along the way, we’ve got the answers for you!

What is Record Store Day?

So, what exactly is Record Store Day? In short, it’s one day a year when independent record stores around the world offer special releases by various artists - exclusively for this event. These include limited editions, previously unreleased tracks, and merchandise bundles that you won’t find outside of Record Store Day (RSD). Many stores also host live events and performances to celebrate.

It’s a great opportunity for artists and fans alike - but most importantly, Record Store Day exists to support the indie record stores themselves. These days, browsing through records in a local shop isn’t as common as it used to be. But these stores are a vital part of music culture - not just for selling music, but as hubs for passionate music communities. RSD gives everyone a reason each year to (re)connect with their local record shop. So why not drop by and see if your favorite shop is taking part this year?

When Did Record Store Day Start?

Record Store Day was launched in 2007 in the United States. The idea came from Michael Kurtz, and it started off with just a small group of supporters. Since then, the event has grown massively, with over 3,000 participating indie stores worldwide. It’s no wonder RSD has earned the title “the biggest music event in the world.”

When Is Record Store Day?

Record Store Day is held every year on the third Saturday in April. So mark your calendar and don’t miss your chance to enjoy exclusive events, meet fellow music fans, and get your hands on some seriously rare releases!
